YLG Northwest Unconference 2016

The unconference is aimed at anybody with an interest in promoting books and reading to children and young people and is a brilliant opportunity to network with others and pick up some new ideas. We’ll be visiting Liverpool Central Library, St George’s Hall and the Walker Art Gallery and there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion of children and young people’s library provision and books.
We will meet in the coffee shop at Liverpool Central Library at 9.45am. Unfortunately we are unable to provide refreshments or lunch but delegates are welcome to bring their own lunch or join us in the cafe at the Walker Art Gallery.

The full schedule for the day is as follows:

9.45am – 10am Meet in the coffee shop just inside Liverpool Central Library for registration

10am Introduction

10am – 10.45am Tour of Liverpool Central Library

10.45am – 11.30am Discussion groups (ground floor of Library)

11.35am Meet at Library entrance to walk to St George’s Hall

11.45am – 12.15pm Look around St George’s Hall

12.15pm – 1pm Discussion groups (St George’s Hall cafe or outdoor venues if weather is really good!)

1pm Walk to Art Gallery

1pm – 1.50pm Lunch & look around Art Gallery

1.50pm Meet at Art Gallery entrance to walk back to Library

2-3pm CKG nominations and voting in Central Library meeting room

3pm Results of voting and finish

The last part of the day involves voting for the 4 books that the Northwest Committee can put forward as our nominations for the 2017 Carnegie and Kate Greenaway medals. Committee members will be championing a shortlist of 6 books for each award and discussing how we think each of the books we’ve selected measures up to the Medal criteria.
